Installation Information

C5 Double Din Install

For installation of a double din radio into a stock 1.5 din C5 Corvette there is some modifications required. You will need to have a modified radio bezel to allow for the new double din radio to fit. We have about every option you can think of to help you with this all available hand made to order for you. Check our store or call for details if you do not see a bezel that suits your need.

Besides the bezel, you will also need to make some modifications to the mounting cage as well.

On a bezel from us where you keep the ash tray you will need to cut out the support bracket that is under the stock radio. Along with this there is two tabs at the upper back of the mounting cage that will need to be bent up and out of the way. This will allow for the radio to set at correct angle when installing your new radio. If you decide on a bezel with no ash tray you will need to cutout and remove the support bracket that is under the hvac controls as well.

This is an example picture to show you how the stock radio looks with a modified double din radio bezel. This better explains the need for the double din bezel.

This picture below shows the stock mounting cage with no modifications

This picture below shows the stock cage with both the top and bottom brackets or shelf removed

Wiring

Next step in the installation process is to get your radio all wired for the install.

You will need to add a harness such as the PAC Audio ROEM-VET1 we recommend with our complete packages to allow you to retain the factory Bose speakers. If you are NOT keeping the factory speakers and using aftermarket amps and speakers then you will simply use a standard GM harness.

These pictures will show you how to wire a PAC Audio ROEM-VET1 harness. We are using a Pioneer x920BT for these pictures. NOTE you can bypass the safety overrides to allow for NAV and DVD features while in motion. We do not offer this service in shop or recommend for safety features. This is something we do not suggest but get asked all the time how to perform. Perform this step at your own risk.

First

We start with the R
oem-Vet1
harness

NEXT we take the section of the harness we are going to wire

and unplug it from the Roem-vet1.

This is just an easier way of working on the wiring.

First thing and this is the most important part of the process.

The BLUE/WHITE from the radio will connect to the BLUE on

 the Roem-Vet1

If you connect blue/white to blue/white then your front door

speakers will not work and will not sound very good.

Below the next step I did was to connect the yellow from the radio to

the yellow in the Roem-Vet1 extension for the red ignition wire on the

radio harness needs to be ran to the passenger footwell. (97-03) you

can run to passenger footwell to the yellow wire that is taped off.

(there is also a black ground and orange wire12v  there as well) for an

04you will need a mini fuse to connect to the fuse box as the 04 does

not have these 3 wires to connect to.

Below is a picture of wire installed in footwell

Note: Green wire is an extension of the red accessory wire.

Note: The green wire above is an extension to the red accessory wire as well as the purple one below!

Next step is to connect the speaker wires.

This is a matter of matching color to color.

NOTE the  Roem-Vet1 has three wires for each speaker.

YOU WILL NOT BE USING THE LOW LEVEL SPEAKER WIRE(red

 stripe), ONLY THE HIGH LEVEL.

For the most part after this your pretty much done.

Your wondering about the ground wire. In this install we did the

bypass on the x920bt which was moving the one yellow/black

wire over one notch in the connector. We then took the

yellow/black wire we moved, the parking wire and the black

ground all from the radio and connected them to the black

ground in the Roem-Vet1. The only other wire you will need to

worry about is the dimmer wire to connect the dimmer wire we

spliced into the hvac control harness.

The orange white wire from the radio harness was extended using

a left over piece of green and then connected to the cream/yellow

colored wire on the far right of the blue side on the hvac

 connector.

After wiring is complete you will then need to get your brackets installed on the radio and ready for the fitting. These pictures below will show you how to use the brackets we supply with our kits.

DOUBLE DIN BRACKET INSTALLATION TIPS

Your double din brackets are simple and easy to help you get the new double din radio into your C5. IN the package you will have the following:

1 pair of brackets

2 self taping screws

2 flat washers

2 locking washers

2 10-24 screws

You will simply take one bracket and mount it to each side like this

After the brackets have been mounted to both sides, you will take the radio and start to position it in the mounting cage. Use the self taping screws to create new holes in the front of the cage to mount to the position needed.

Should look like this when you have it in mounting cage.

From here comes the fun part of test fitting the radio positioning to the bezel.

This part I want to stress TAKE YOUR TIME. Do not force anything or you will end up breaking something and this something usually is the bezel. Keep in mind these are cut up and rebuilt to allow for all of this to work out for you.

Pushing on the bezel to move a radio with metal brackets is not going to happen and something will have to give and the bezel will before the radio moves. We will then have to fix your bezel. We stand by all work we do but do not fix repairs for free when installation errors cause damage.

If you run into issues call or email us for support. We will gladly take the time to help you get this fitting correctly. 608-568-3011

Install tips

On a with ash tray bezel

If you start with your initial fitment with brackets as shown for position you will be close for the front to back positioning in the bezel. Now for height. Using the flat portion of your dash under the a/c vents as not only a straight edge but a guide. Keep the top of the radio about ½ inch below this part on the dash. Eyeball it center and you should be close for first initial fitment. Two hands for this work better than one but a single person can install. If performing this by yourself. Take some towels and insert into mounting cage for radio to set on. This will help to give you an idea of mounting position when you test fit to bezel.

NO ASH TRAY

This is a little more complicated as not only do you have to position the radio bezel but you will also need to relocate and position the HVAC controls. The HVAC controls will be lower and will need to be spaced out to set flush with the bezel. You can carefully epoxy he hvac controls to the backside of the bezel by applying it to the corners of the hvac control. You will then have to reach in from behind to install the hvac wiring connector.

This should help all of those with questions about installation. We will update this with more pictures and info from time to time.

Your always welcome to call us for installation tech support as well.

2010 Chevrolet Corvette

1. Quick description before we start wiring the SWI-JACK.

Info that follows is to replace a Base Radio

The SWI-JACK's wire color we are going to use is Green. This is the Green wire on the SWI-JACK, not the vehicle!
The other wires on the SWI-JACK, white, yellow, orange and blue wires are not used for your Chevrolet Corvette.
This leaves you with a Red, Black and two loop wires. These wires will be discussed down below.

2. Picture of the Chevrolet Corvette plug.

The vehicle's factory harness connector is viewed from the pin side not wire side.

3. Connecting the SWI-JACK's steering wheel control input wire to vehicle plug.

  • Read the note in the chart below.
  • Connect the SWI-JACK's Green wire to pin # A7 (blue) of the above connector.
  • Connect pin # A6 (purple) to accessory +12v
  • Note #9
No other notes needed, skip to the next STEP.

4. Connecting power and ground wires.

Black wire: Connect the SWI-JACK's black wire to chassis ground. This is usually a black wire on the aftermarket wire kit.
Red wire: Connect the SWI-JACK's red wire to a switched +12volt wire. This is usually a red wire on the aftermarket wire kit.

5. Instructions for cutting or not cutting loop wires.

Step A: The purple loop wire does not need to be cut.(unless stated different previously)
Step B: The brown loop wire does not need to be cut.(unless stated different previously)

6. Setting the Radio Select Rotary Switch

The rotary switch needs to be set to position #3
Please note that it is very important to set the radio select switch before turning on the ignition to begin programming!

7. Programming the SWI-JACK with a version number.

The SWI-JACK has to be programmed for version # 1.
1. Press and hold the Program Button on the SWI-JACK while turning on the vehicle to the accessory position. The LED will turn on.
2. Release the Program Button and the LED will turn off.
3. Press the Program Button 1 times. Each time you press and release the Program Button, the LED will turn on and off. Once you press the Program Button 1 times, wait or 3 seconds. The LED will flash 1 times indicating it is programmed for version 1. If it flashes the wrong version number, you will have to start all over at step 1 above in this section. Turn the key off.
4. Once you have programmed the correct version number, you will not have to do these steps again. If you need to reprogram the steering wheel control, you can go directly to the next section.

8. Programming the SWI-JACK to learn steering wheel control functions.

1. Turn the key to the accessory position (you do not need to hold the Program Button at this time). The LED will flash 1 times. This indicates it is programmed for version 1.
2. Press the Program Button until the LED turns on, then release the button (This will erase all previous learned steering wheel control functions). The SWI-JACK is now ready to learn a command from the steering wheel.
3. The SWI-JACK must be programmed in the specific order shown in the chart below. If a function is not needed, it may be skipped. Adjust the Radio Select switch on the side of the SWI-JACK according to the chart. Alpine = 1, JVC = 2, Kenwood = 3, Clarion = 4 and Blaupunkt = 5.

4. With the LED on, press your steering wheel button until the light goes out and hold for one second more.
5. Release and the LED should come back on. If it does not please double check all connections and verify for correct version programming.
6. Repeat step 4 and 5 to program additional steering wheel buttons in the order corresponding to the chart above for your SWI interface.
7. If you come across a command in the chart that your steering wheel does not have, or you do not want to program, press the Program Button on the side of the SWI interface.
8. The LED will flash once rapidly and then stay on confirming that you have successfully skipped that command and are ready for the next button.
9. When you are done programming all the buttons, wait for about 7 seconds. The LED will flash 3 times indicating it is done programming. The LED will then flash 1 times indicating the version number.

9. Testing the SWI-JACK.

1. Connect the INTERFACE's Blue/Yellow wire to the radios Blue/Yellow (steering wheel control) wire.
2. With the vehicle on, press a steering wheel button to control the stereo. The SWI-JACK should control the aftermarket stereo with the function you taught it. Test all other buttons.
3. If the interface does not control the radio as the steering wheel indicates, the buttons were either pressed in the wrong order or a step was not skipped properly. Return to category 7 and reprogram.
4. Make sure all unused wires are isolated separately.
5. After all commands are verified to work properly, secure the SWI interface so that tension will not pull either of the connectors loose or apart.
6. That's it! Enjoy!

C6 Kicker Upgrade Installation Guide
Guide provided by our customer for his C6 Coupe. This is only a guide.

First off open the doors hood and hatch. I disconnected the battery because I did not want to cause a drain. Simple procedure with a 10mm driver pictured here:

I started with the driver’s side door. You must first remover the small plate under the arm rest pictured here:

Them remove the 2 screws pictured here using a 30 Torx :

Now time to remove the door panel. I bought this set of panel removers from Harbor Freight for about $6 and it was money well spent as it made the job much easier. Here is what they look like and the Item #:

There are 8 pins holding the door on and metal hangers on top. Don't worry as you are prying the pins loose as it will make a horrible sound. Once the door panel is loose you will have to disconnect this plug pictured here:

Once that plug is disconnected your door panel will be free from the door as pictured here:

Now that your door panel is removed you can install the tweeters in the door panel. There are 4 Phillips screws and a connector plug to remove pictured here:

Now install your Kicker speaker in the door using the supplied Metra harness kit pictured here:

This harness kit is plug & play and is fail proof as there is only 2 wires and they are different sizes + & - as pictured here:

Here is the installed tweeter pictured here:

Now you are ready to re-install the door panel. There is a new technique for installing the door panels. Refer to this link:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ll-method.html
Here is the pictures from my door. I used shoe strings and it worked like a charm:

For the passenger door you will have to remove 2 screws. The first location pictured here:

The second one is the door release button pictured here:

Once they are removed follow the same steps as the drivers side door.
On to the back speakers.
Support the hatch, even if you do it one side at a time, just one shock can't hold it up.

The rope doesn't need to be tight, it just needs to keep the hatch from falling.
I couldn't find any rope so I just rigged up a extension cord and it worked fine. Pictured here:

Pull up the rubber boot at the bottom of one of the shocks. Unplug the rear defogger. Pry out the retaining clip far enough to grab it with a pair of pliers, then pull it out. Push up on the hatch to release the tension on the shock and it will easily slide right off of the mount. Repeat on the other side. Pictured here:

Next Pull out the four push pins at the top edge of the speaker trim plates (two on each side). Kinda hard to see in this picture:

To pull off the trim panel, reach under the front lower corner and pull straight out about 1". You should feel one of the friction clips release. Slide your hand up near the top front corner and pull it out until that clip releases. Undo the four screws holding in and pull out your old speaker. Here is the picture of the new mounted Kicker speaker:

Repeat process for other side. That is basically it.
